In 1984, Ancestry Publishing (now Ancestry.com) began as the leading publisher of trusted family history books helping genealogists grow their family trees with innovative advice, time-tested techniques and reliable resources. Today, Ancestry.com is a company of more than 600 people helping others discover, share and preserve their unique family stories. It’s also the world’s largest online collection of historical records. And we’re expanding the site’s offerings further every day.
What exactly do we do?
For the past 10 years, we’ve spent millions of dollars and billions of hours tracking down the world’s most valuable historical records and
making them easily accessible to you online. We do this by negotiating with governments to acquire, scan and index records from countries all over the world. Then we store this information, along with our members’ precious data, in highly secured server facilities — believe it or not — in a granite vault within the side of a mountain.
We’ve continuously developed valuable new tools, such as free online family trees, which allow you to share your stories through photos, audio and video. We’ve also been growing Ancestry internationally. We have offices in England and Germany and sites in those countries plus Australia, Canada, Italy, Sweden and France.
What can we do for you?
Ancestry.ca can tell you when and where your ancestors were born, who they married, how they earned a living and so much more. We can give you quick links records featuring family members you never knew — and the tools you need to build a family tree, upload photos and stories and share them with loved ones online.
